Brno, Aug 11 (BD) – Get out the champagne and your party hat, it’s Brno Day! A military reenactment, baroque foodfests and fireworks will be the main events this week, but that’s not all you have to look forward to! Shooting stars, amazing concerts, festivals on the river and more are in the diary this week in Brno!
Help your wallet and the planet at the Hadrárna Outdoor market in the courtyard of Radnická 2. On Tuesday you can get your hands on some great second-hand clothes in one of the most beautiful courtyards in the city centre. Grab your sleeping bag and a thermos of hot tea, it’s time to wish upon a shooting star. From 10pm on Monday until 2am on Tuesday, Brno Planetarium is hosting a Night of Shooting Stars at the swimming pool in Kraví hora, to observe the Perseids meteor shower. If you work in the product industry, the second ProductTank MeetUp Brno, “Prioritize like a pro”, is here. On August 13, you can meet other people working in your field and go to talks in English by professionals in the sector. The event starts at 6pm and is free. If you prefer some interesting synth-pop, you might want to check out the Czech band Ghost of You. After playing at international events such as Colors of Ostrava and Waves Vienna, they will perform this Wednesday at the Jazzová kavárna Podobrazy. Almost 400 years ago, during the 30 Years War, Brno was able to fend off the advance of the Swedish army and preserve its freedom. August 15 is therefore celebrated as Den Brna [Brno Day]. Many events and celebrations will be taking place around the city, such as a baroque food festival, a reenactment of the battle below Špilberk castle, and fireworks on Saturday night. On the same day, the Virgin Mary Assumption will be celebrated with a choral concert at the Augustinian abbey with the basilica of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. You can find the program (in Czech) on the abbey website and on the Facebook event page.
If, after all that history, you want to get back to the present, we have what you need. On Friday and Saturday Létofest (Summerfest) 2019 arrives in Brno with two full days of concerts. You can read the full program on the Facebook event page.
Need to relax? You can stretch your body and enjoy nature on Friday with Yoga in the park near Anthropos. The class will last from 6pm to 7pm, and tickets cost CZK 150. You can book your reservation and find more information (in Czech) on the Facebook event page.
What says “summer” more than an open-air Latino music night? On Friday from 7pm you can dance and shake your body at Latino na Baštách. Entrance for the outdoor party is free until 10pm, and you can find more information on the Facebook event page.
On Saturday, help bring the waterfront of the River Svitavy to life at Festival na nábřeží: Překročme řeku 2019 [Waterfront Festival: Cross the River 2019]. The fifth year of the event will feature concerts, theater, exhibitions, sports and art activities for children and adults. As well as all that you can take a trip to Bílovice nad Svitavou on a dragon boat and visit the local falconry, and see a steam train driving from Adamov. Celebrations are continuing for the 150th birthday of Brno’s public transport. On Saturday, you can help commemorate the first horse-drawn carriage to ride on Brno’s streets exactly 150 years ago. You can find more information on the Facebook event page.
After a week full of events, it’s time to relax with a buffet. On Sunday, you can go to the Brunch at Būcheck and drool over juicy Cuban Sandwiches, great coffee and delicious cakes. You can find more info on the Facebook event page.
